Day 1 of filming:
It ended up raining most of the day. We knew that the weather would be bad so had only planned on a few insert shots throughout the day. Not much was lost here.
The important question...Will the rain stop before nightfall? We've planned to shoot scene 1 tonight. That is a simple campfire scene with our child stars and the Cheyenne Kid.

Bob Wallace returns as The Cheyenne Kid
Tommy is played by Cameron Stewart (Age 11)
Lizzy is played by Rebecca Welsh (Age 9)

4:30 p.m. The sky is blue and I am traveling from Buckingham County to pick up one of the child actors.
6:30-8:00 p.m. We are back on location getting the actors into costume. The location is being set and lighting is being erected. Our Fire Tech gets the campfire going with his specialized skills. (It really hard to burn wet wood. But he did it pretty fast.)
8:00-11:00 p.m. Filming scene 1 went really well. Our child actors did good. (Their first time working together.) The Cheyenne Kid had it easy. He got to sleep in the back ground the entire time! Taking down the equipment went really fast.
11:00-12:00 a.m. The drive home and sleep. The poor child actors were up way past their bedtimes. (At least they only have 1 night shoot.) |

Day 2:
We only have Lizzy till 10:00 a.m. So we spend 90 minutes shooting introduction / "the story so far" footage with Tommy, Lizzy and the Cheyenne Kid.
10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. We shot Scene 4 with Cheyenne waking up and finding the kids gone. Next we got some exciting horse shots with stunt double David Kimbell. Finally we shot some more intro/"story so far" stuff with Tim Fredrikson, Gregg Roberts and Danny Absher.

Gregg Roberts plays "Thug#3"
Tim Fredrikson Plays "Juan Jose"
Danny Absher returns as Uncle Fuzzy

It was Gregg's first time on one of our movies and he was a great help. He got to play dress up, spotted script and helped with lighting.

Day 3:
Today we shot one scene. The "Rosita Scene". Mitch Toney, Tim Fredrikson and I spent an hour putting the finishing touches on the location. Cameron David Stewart ran sound for the scene.

This scene is a funny one if done right. Juan Jose gets to ramble on for a while, while Rosita (Played by Barbara Wilfong) gets to STEAL THE SCENE.
I hadn't worked with Barbara before and was worried. So much of the scene will depend on her. She arrived and got into costume and we began the scene. Tim did awesome with his dialogue. And I'm glad to say Barbara OWNED it! This is my favorite shooting day so far!

Day 4:
It was a long day. Between Day 4 and Day 5 of filming our aim is to get through all of the "Juan Jose Campsite" scenes. That covers around half of the movie! We had a big snag right at the start because Rebecca Welsh (Lizzy) was sick and couldn't come today. Luckily with some comical creativity a brilliant way was found to get around the hurtle. Even with the setback we managed to get through several scenes:
Everyone found out that Gregg Roberts IS AN ACTOR! (This is his first time.)

Tori Slovek got to burn Fuzzy!

And we got to meet some familiar characters.

It was a very productive day and we have loaded up the site with more PICS. |

Day 5:
Due to the heavy rainfall earlier this week we were only able to shoot for half a day. We still were able to get a lot done.
Lizzy Returned and we tossed a sack over her head!
Jim Welsh joined us and got to play a bad guy. He got to capture his daughter Rebecca.
Fuzzy loved being lit up last week we decided to do it again so I could get the shots I wanted.
Red and Ace discussed all the various types of card games.

In all we got the Lizzy inserts we needed for Scenes 4 and 6. We reshot most of scene 10. And even had time to torture Toad a little.
The most exciting part! We got to work with some of my famous storyboards:

Day 6:
Action time! We spent the daylight hours working on a wagon scene. Bob Wallace returned as The Cheyenne Kid. Bob Toney joined us as Tom Mix. Nick Sinclair drove the wagon, and Paige Mcrae hopped on as a frightened passenger.

Mitch Toney and David Kimble played baddies and Stunt Doubles today.
As I found out working on Cheyenne Kid part 1, animal scenes require a lot of patience. Today was a long one. We had a break mid day so some of the actors could go do a gunfight for a local rest home.
When they returned we finished up the wagon scene. (Racing the setting sun the whole time!)
At night we switched on the lights and lit the campfire for our Juan Jose camp scene. Once again Tim Fredrikson OWNED the scene. It's always a pleasure filming him. (Unless he's on a horse!)

Day 7:
Action time! (again)
Gunfire, playing cards and fistfights were the planned events of the day. A few new arrivals:

Robert Mason and Kevin Toney joined our bad guys.
Tom Mix and The Cheyenne Kid spent the day kicking butt.
We still have a bit of inserts to do for some of this scene.

A funny part of filming involved Juan Jose's first time on a horse. Paige was a big help in keeping Tim from crying while he did his horse scenes!

Day 8:
Inserts, Action, and Stunts!
Today we lit up Fuzzy's feet one more time. (I know I said I wouldn't do it anymore but in reviewing the raw footage I decided I needed MORE FIRE!)
Next we shot a short scene where Toad meets up with Rosco and Pico. Aside from David Kimble getting up close and personal with a tree it went smoothly!
After that it was onto a Tom Mix/Cheyenne Kid stunt shot. Mitch Toney tried to top David Kimble's "tree stunt." I don't know who won. You be the judge:
MITCH LOVES DIRT ......... DAVID LOVES TREES |

Day 9:
Another day with inserts. Bob Wallace returned and I got to film part of my cameo. He got to kick my butt!

| 12/13/09 |
Day 10:
The rainiest film day I have ever had! Lucky we shot indoors. We did part of the "Cabin" scene.
Tori Slovek came on board as FRANCIS and did a great job.
Gregg Roberts and I got creative with making the set look like the actors had just finished dinner. There was tomato sauce, yams, corn, fesh grass, mud, rain water, some roots, and a little horse poop all mixed up. It was a splendid meal...Or as Fuzzy would say: "Them's good eatin'..."

| 1/17/10 |
Day 11:
We survived the Blizzard of 2009! Time for some indoor scenes.
Dudley Sauve joined the cast as Major Neal Price.
Amber Slovek joined the cast as Mrs. Neal Price.
It was nice to work in a controlled environment again. Both Amber and Dudley did a great job with thier roles. We're nearly finished shooting this film! |
| 3/28/10 |
Day 12:
Laundry and dynamite!
Today we filmed poor Tori Slovek being harassed by Dudley Sauve and Amber Slovek. The first part of filming was done at the Historic village in Buckingham County. Then we finished up the cabin scene. We (finally) got to use my waterproof canon wick I bought months ago for our dynamite scene. Cool Stuff. The kids seemed to like it.

| 4/3/10 |
Day 13:
The final day at the camp! We gathered all our bad guys and headed to the "Baddies Camp" location again. For months it has been a swampy mess. Today it was still muddy but we managed to get through all the shots we needed.

Day 14:
This was our last day of filming. Bob Wallace came back to finish his part. We filmed several different locations and scenes all over Buckingham County. Special Thanks to the Fluvanna County Historical Society, The Fluvanna County Government, Judith Mickelson and Chuck Restrater for allowing us to film in the OLD STONE JAIL.
